Music Therapy

Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed music therapist (American Music Therapy Association, 2005). Music therapy improves the quality of an individual's life by addressing behavioral, physical, psychological, communicative, sensory, motor, cognitive, and/or social functioning. BSI music therapists specialize in serving individuals of all ages diagnosed with developmental disabilities.

In 2002, BSI became the first waiver provider in Northwest Indiana to offer music therapy services. The program is well-established and is committed to excellence in the field of music therapy. We value educating quality therapists; therefore, BSI is one of three approved National Roster Internship Sites with the American Music Therapy Association in the state of Indiana.

In addition to providing therapeutic sessions, Music Therapists complete assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, regularly review client progress, and participate in clients' interdisciplinary team meetings.
